From Paul Gutheil

mark gunther msg, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Buckles: According to my calendar Gunther would have been 76 this
coming Sunday, so I have
attached the last photo I ever took of this great man (with Mark)
during his last visit to
Madison Square Garden.

With fond memories,

Paul

Paul,
Better then a great on. One of the greatest. Appreciate you taking it and sharing it. I sure wish there was a GGW, with Prince, on Congo pin used to promote cancer awareness, instead of a pink ribbon. Not for nothing, but I think it would make folks even more aware of what Kryptonite did to Superman. Least we forget, Charly Baumann's birthday is coming up in a few day's also. Virgo the Virgins!!!!! Go figure.

Chic,
I remember it well. Each year Charly threw a big bash at the train, and in 1984, when he found out my birthday was on the 16th, and GGW was on the 19th he decided to have a real by God, knock down party. He almost killed me, and it was the last time I ever had a drink. He "force fed" me Gin and Tonic's all night long, with the threat of a slap in the chest if I didn't comply, because after all, in his gruff Germanic voice, "if you are going to be like Gunther and I, you have to learn to be a man." I woke up the next morning, laying on the living room floor in he and Aricellis car, thinking I must have stumbled into the elephant tent, and got stomped by Targa. The great man put the Gin bottle under my nose, and laughed as I ran for the vestibule to 86 any gut's I had left. To this day the smell of Gin makes me gag. What a wonderful world it was, surrounded by giant's of the industry.

GREAT story, Wade! One of the few times where I was thoroughly inebriated as on the trip from Long Beach to the Cow Palace... I left a trail halfway up the California coast! Come to think of it that was MY last time! ~frank

Wade, Frank... glad you learned your lessons. @ Frank, I think the trail to the Cow Palace is still there. Anybody ever spend a night on the town with Roland Kaiser? Holy cow...

BTW - Henry Schroer's birthday is Monday the 13th! Give him a blast.

I know this post is about Mr. Williams, but if I'm not mistaken, Aug. 17th of this year was Mark Oliver Gebel's 40th birthday.
