Is this Vicki Unus?
Yes. The Lovely LaToria, Sorceress of the Stratosphere.
I am not a circus historian, but it almost has to be Vicki Unus, "La Toria". There were not that many ring and one arm swing performers in that era, and Vicki, of course was blond. If I had money to place, that is where I would place it. Jackie LeClaire
I spoke with Kenny Dodd today about Vicki and he called Vicki about the photo. She immediatly went into Buckles Blog to see it and exclaimed, "Oh, my gosh, what a terrible photo of my split. I went way down into the split and bounced up and downn in the split position. The photo was taken at the top of a bounce!!!". As we may well remember, Vicki worked in high heel shoes, just like her predcessor Lalage. Lalage's husband Wolf, trained her in the execution of the tricks. (By the way, he is the same man who trained me ) Lalage had done also a ring and one arm swings act. Vicki gave the act a whole new breath of life and the rest is history. Vicki had left Ringling at the end of 65 season and went to Spain to do the movie Circus World and perform with
Circus Krone. 1969 was her first season back with Ringling. And by the way, she still looks like a million dollars today. Jackie LeClaire
With women like Antoinette Concello, Sue Lenz, Vicki Unus, Mabel Stark and of course birthday girl, Barbara Woodcock as examples, the women of today's circus have a rich heritage to look back on! ~frank
