Have a funny memory of taking the act to The Tonight Show in Burbank.

Borrowed a station wagon from The Forum. The pole was so long that we had to push the end out of one of the backseat windows, with a red cloth tied to it.

About halfway to Burbank on the Ventura Freeway, was pulled over by the CHP. I explained the situation and, fortunately, had some circus passes in my pocket.

We were allowed to proceed to our date with Johnny Carson.

Moral to press agents: don't leave home without some passes.

Those comps were negotiable. I knew a guy and his wife on the Blue Show that somehow had access to an endless supply.
They bartered their way from coast to coast mostly for groceries but
claimed to have finagled clothes, medical supplies and on one occasion a used motorcycle.

timekeeper/bridge tender to me

I receive my first comp when I was about 11 and one thing I didn't expect was to be given 'The Best Seat in the House' Ringling had a policy of doing that with comps. ~frank

all i can say about this act is, it was fabulous--so elegantly presented and executed...in a class by itself.
