STRUPPI HANNEFORD So was it TATJANA or TAJANA? If you answered both you win the cigar. The agreement for Struppi's initial (Polack) date Feb 25- March 3, 1957 Rochester, NY listed her as Tatjana. Harry Thomas, announcer instead of announcing Tatjana, he announced Tajana...rest is history. Tatjana was Struppi's Russian ballet teacher....Jack's of Hollywood design Struppi's wardrobe and Izzy Cervone wrote the music...Agreement for the Rochester date was $450.00. ref: McConnell's " A Ring, a Horse and a Clown" and D.P. Orr's Hanneford archives.
Struppi is Kim Baer's aunt by marriage. She told me something I had almost forgotten. For the Indian princess act, her trapeze bar was formed like an arrow. A feather effect at one end, and an arrowhead at the other. Once in a rigging failure, trapeze and all came down, and Struppi fell in such a way as to be stabbed by the arrowhead. Her injuries were serious, and that design was retired.
Kim is trying to remember the Mexican act who named their children for her--one was named Tatiana, or Tatjana, another named Struppi, we think. Can anyone help us recall this family?
She relates the "j" was pronounced in Native American dialect, as in "just". Her father, Parley Baer, announced her this way, in lieu of the Hispanic "j", pronounced as an "h".
Checking out the Blog on the way to bed and too sleepy to think straight but one of the "T's" is Jimmy Hall'a wife Tepa from the Luvas family. I'll let him explain the rest.
