Great piece of history, Buckles. How many shoeboxes do you have?

What was seating capacity?

I don't remember exactly but it was somewhere between Big Apple and Soleil.
Life Magazine did a spread on the fair showing extremes in attendance.
The waiting lines at Disney and the interior of our tent during the elephant act with a smattering of people in the seats.
I'll see if I can find that article. You could get a quick estimate of the seating.

Great cover... This could be for a current show. I would love to have seen the layout.

All the best,

Brian

From where did the tent and seats come and where did they go? Canvas or vinyl?

It's generally forgotten that during North's tenure there were RBBB troupes sent elsewhere, to Europe, South America and Cuba, as well as the Continental operation.

I was there, I was 8, however we didn't go to the circus; Dad was still shell shocked from when he passed out at the side show

Who maufactured the tent? Also what was seating like?

I was there. Just turned five.

I remember seeing the tent from a distance. It not far from the monorail station.

The fair it self was overwhelming and filled with wonders (space ships, the Pieta, a giant tire Farris wheel.). It left me with lifetime memories, including those of this show.

The tent, the heat and smell of the animals. The show, that had me on the edge of my seat. I do remember a small crowd that shared it all with my mother, father, sister and myself.

Thank you for sharing this.

Dear God, How...in Heaven... did I miss THIS ?? I was 22 in 1964, just finishing college and on the brink of a 3 year stint in the Army. I sure missed a helluva show, and ironically got to know many of these fine, supertalented showfolks years later. They goofed on Billy Barton's heading...it's Mr SINsation....LOL.

All best to all you good and talented folks,

Paul Gutheil

no question this was a great show with a-list acts all around--but i went to the world's fair in '64 and there was just so much to see, amazing, "futuristic" stuff and the iconic Disney creation, "It's A Small World" and
GE's "Progressland" featuring a revolving theatre--eye popping stuff. Perhaps a thrill circus outdoors with amazing aerial stuff would have grabbed more attention and ticket sales.

When I played Amarillo 5 years ago...A Nerdy Gentleman was the only one in the tent when the Wheel went down... I was waiting for him to look at everything so I could finish closing up and go eat...But this Guy had to study EVERYTHING and ask a million questions...I bit my lip and patiently gave him all the standard answers...He was very thankful and said in 1963 he worked for NCR and himself and few others worked on a project to create the "Worlds smallest Bible for the 1964 fair...it took many complicated processes back then which he described to me. ( now days it could be done painlessly) The finished Bible was on a slide that when veiwed on a 100 power microscope one could read just 1 page...He said they made 7 slides and he possessed 4..He returned the next Day with a microscope and showed me...Then he gave me 1 of the slides for being patient with him a few days earliar..I have never displayed it cause I never purchased a Microscope that would transfer the image veiwed to a TV screen...However, I always envisioned the Banner with the Bible real samll and the rest of the banner taken up with a Fly...that way if they didnt catch the smalllest Bible...they would think they were seeing a GIANT FLY...

RE Jerry Digney's comment: Jerry mentioned some of the Disney attractions at the Fair. If you go to WDW Magic Kingdom today you can still ride on Small World, see the Carrosel of Progress revolving theatre, travel on the Tomorrowland Transit (Ford People Mover), and see all the Presidents (not just Meet Mr. Lincoln), all attractions from the NY Fair. Unfortunately no circus but I think Dumbo will play a major role in the new Fantasyland now under construction.

Not only will Dumbo play a major role in the Fantasyland expansion, there will be two Dumbo rides, doubling the capacity of the attraction (If you've ever waited for an hour with a 4 year old to ride for 2:30 on the ride......) The "new" Dumbo will be fully under a building structure so it can run in the rain. From the early concepts we saw a few months ago, the entire area will have a more Mickey's "Circus" theme. I'm sure no live elephants though, what a shame.

I'm pretty sure that the top was

Leaf Tent & Sail (Lief Osmundson)

Not that anyone would want to

listen but I can still sing the

songs from DuPont & Bell System

as well as from GE and nobody

gets any points for Small World
