Great Aunt Ruby. Great, classy lady. Visits back home always required a stop in to see Aunt Ruby and Uncle Fred. I'll always remember her as being a great story teller and an energetic old gal. Unfortunately, I didn't know her when she was a performer. She lived most of her later years near the old Haag WQ that you reference below until she moved down to Georgia a few years ago where she passed away just a couple years later. --- Brad Timberlake
Dad had mentioned there was another elephant named "Tip" that came before "Judy" if you know anything about her. Sounds like she had an unfortunate end as a result of an unsophisticated means of transportation at the time. --- Brad Timberlake
Hi Brad,
Tell your Dad I said hello and glad to see you on the blog.
I sure miss Fisher Bros Circus as you all had one heck of a good circus.
Well billed and good performance and the best bunch of circus folks you ever wanted to know.
And you played the heck out of Texas.
Harry Kingston in Texas
I worked with Ruby and Harry Haag and daughter Naomi with Orrin Davenports dates in the early 50's.
Also I think I remember working with a two woman dog act the Haags with one of their husbands as assistant in So. America on the Ringling unit in 1961. This would have to have been different Haags as the Blog says Harry passed away in 1942. Would some one please clarify this to me, Jackie LeClaire
No Jackie, you are correct.
It was the elephant that died in 1942, not Harry.
This reminds me of a conversation I once heard from a group of Senior Citizens unloading from a bus at a Shrine Circus.
"We better hurry or we'll be late for the show."
"You say it's going to snow?
"No, we'll be late for the show."
"It never snows this time of year."
"No, the show!, the show!"
