I recall seeing this act on RBBB in 1964 and 65. It was impressive (and a little scary) to see Willy Kubler come in with a seven chimp "conga-line" and no leashes. By the end of the 1965 season at least one of the big chimps was getting ready, in the words of Jules Jacot, to "tear up his contract". I saw a few shows where Kubler discreetly pulled a chrome-plated pistol (probably with blanks) out of his waist-band and show it to the misbehaving big guy. It worked when I saw it but I heard the chimp didn't finish the season.

The STL Zoo chimp trainer, Mike Kostial, who had been around many big chimps told me about meeting Kubler. Willy asked if Mike wanted to see his chimps. They walked over to Kubler's trailer and Willy opened a big door. There was Kubler's wife serving milk or tea to the chimps all sitting around the cage and now open to the outside. Memoriable.
