Paul Wentzel was one of those clowns who made a stong impression the first time I saw him and I can remember looking for him each time the show came to Los Angeles. ~frank (Maybe it was the GIANT pocket watch he used in the walk-around.)
When I was on the show in '57, he did a number working all alone. He entered with a fishing pole and looking all around approached a large flat disc placed on the floor and after carefully lowering the hook into a small ring in the center, he gave a mighty yank and a large tarpon looking fish suddenly leapt up from the floor. It got great crowd reaction and of course a very clever prop.
