1964 RBBB Program #1 (From Buckles)

We had our elephants at the World's Fair that year and
made the trip from Queens to the Garden several times.
Art Concello had designed the tent for the JRN Continental
Circus and was on hand during the set-up but after it's
approval by the Fair Board, he waved farewell and ended his
connection with RBBB for the final time.

A question from my wife (who was in elementary school on Long Island in 1964 and attended the fair that spring), How did you get the elephants from the Garden to Queens? I figured you walked them, but through the tunnel or over the bridges?

Thanks

Larry

I was working on projects at a

few of the other attractions at

the time but had opportunities

to see this show several times

It only played the 1st year and

maybe closed early due to it's

poor location on the wrong side

of the Long Island Expressway

The John Ringling North Continental Circus at the Fair was a totally separate operation.
Most of the acts (including ourselves) were booked into the fair independently by Al Dobritch.
Only connection with the traveling show were the old RBBB ticket wagons out front (wherein Wayne Larey represented the Ringling interests) along with a few more units.
For some reason unknown to me, the Stephenson Family was added to our show. I've never known anyone so obsessed with practice, in the ring night and day, much to the chagrin of Tommy Hanneford.

The Stephenson Family was, and still is WONDERFUL! I can remember sitting before and in between shows watching the practice. Others that I remember practicing were Picaso, Pedro Carrillo - The Gaonas would always practice after the last show. ~frank
