Bulk grain delivery being put into feed sacks. Sacks cost five cents each and this saved alot over the course of the season.
In the elephant barn in Hugo, every day following the afternoon watering, we did this same routine by dumping out three 50 pound bags of oats and one bag of bran next to the water tank, then topped it off with a few handfulls of salt.
Then about six of us with shovels would mix it up while someone with the hose would add water, to produce something that resembled oatmeal.
When completed we would scoop it up and distribute it amongst the herd.
What was the purpose of the "oatmeal"?
The mix went three bran to one bag of oats on the herd I was around in the late 60's. I'm not sure, I think it was an economic thing?
What are these guys doing?
Two working - the rest watching!
The ratio hasn't improved any all these years later.
