The zebra in the lower left corner (the one in full view) is a rare Hartmann’s mountain zebra, Equus zebra hartmannae.

It is distinguished by very wide white gaps between the stripes on the hindquarters. That is plainly shown here - -note how distinct those stripes are from the common plains zebra in the background.

The mountain zebras also have a distinctive gridiron striping at base of the spine, at its tail. It also has a noticeable dewlap on its throat which is not apparent here.

This Hartmann’s zebra was taken into the RBBB zebra herd when Sparks went to Sarasota WQ at the end of its final season in 1931. You can see it with RBBB in the famous Kelty interior menagerie photo taken in 1933.
