Hi Buckles, Today, a day earlier than in the past because the show was only moving from Newark, NJ and not VA. the RBBB (blue) Funundrum, rolled into the brand new RR sidings across from the Meadowlands Izod Center. It was a new experience as while they were unloading the bulls, the flats rolled by on the next track. The train was pushed in by two Norfolk & Southern engines. In the past few years it was CSX.
After a little confusion about where the sidings were and I believe the train was a bit late for other reasons, things finally fell into place. There was some media there and some of the local folks found their way over with their kids to see "the animals". All they unloaded this year was 9 bulls, two of which were walked about 200 feet to a semi and trucked over.
Due to the new siding the walk was only about an eighth of a mile as opposed to the two plus miles of past years. The only people I knew, after being there for this event going on 30 years, was Blue Unit fixture Sonny Ridley (had to reach over a gate to shake hands) and Aaron (Lee) Morris. Also there but didn't get a chance to say Hi to was Alex Petrov and the Friscos.
Past experience taught me it was a good idea to bring a 6 ft stepladder to get photos. Real glad I did this year because there were gates and fences all over and they made everyone stay stay way back (thank God for telephoto lenses). You'd think they were unloading uncaged tigers.
Must say Ringling staff and PR people were very good to Diane and me, the only two Circus Fans in attendance. Years ago there would be anywhere from one to two dozen Fans there at 5AM to see and record the unloading of the flats and then later the stock cars. It ain't what it used to be.
Attached here and a couple of other sendings some photos of th event.
All best to you and the family from Diane an me, Paul
