In one photograph stands the man with the knowledge and skills to build and establish the Barnes show as the most important wild animal circus in history, and to school the trainers needed on staff. Many became journeyman trainers. Two, Mabel Stark and Clyde Beatty, became the stuff of legend.
Dave Robeson wrote LOUIS ROTH - FORTY YEARS WITH JUNGLE KILLERS, Caldwell, Idaho - The Caxton Printers, 1941, which see. This one is rare, so you know what to do.
You may pay your respects to Louis Roth, Cheerful Gardner, and many other great showfolks at Pacific Coast Showmans Rest, Evergreen Cemetery, Los Angeles.
As a kid in the Boyle Heights section of East Los Angeles, I used to walk by Evergreen Cemetary on my way to school - never knowing the circus greats who rested within. Thanks for the info. ~frank
