Buckles - was the sidewall alone enough to keep the hippo contained?
No, the hippo remained in the cage and was only taken out long enough for her walk around the track during the performance or to have her tank cleaned out.
Wasn't the rhino in the front part of this cage trailer?
You can see a barred partition across Miss Oklahoma's part of it.
Richard,
Nick the rhino was up front as they both were in one trailer.
I made a large scale model of this and called and talked to D. R. on this and ask him many questions about this truck as I wanted to get it right from the man himself.
And where all the bars were located etc.

How can we mention Miss Oklahoma without a nod to Dutch Narfski who worked her?
You ever stop to think how many old show characters ended up on Kelly-Miller?
I saw Miss Oklahoma still "performing" in Mexico at "Daktary Circus" Owners Juan & Gustavo Esqueda, around 1980, their brother in law Eugene "Jim" Garner brought her from the U.S. to Mexico togheter with an elephant named "Renney" or "Rene" that elephant gave birth to the only asian elephant born at a circus in Mexico, they named her "Bireky" wich in some mexican native language means "Gift of God" mother and daughter are still performing at Juan Esquedas circus in Mexico.
Johnny Lam.
Johnny,
I have pictures of Gene working the Tom Packs elephants with Circo Bells in the mid 1960's after they were purchased from Rudy Jacoby.
In that herd was an elephant named "Penny". Might this be the same elephant?
G'day Johnny,
I past the info you wrote on the elephant from "Daktary Circus" to someonne in Europe, who has been trying to find out about this particular Asian female? The following is what he has found out and would be interested in finding more info?
Any additional info, would be greatly appreciated!

There is only one article in the web which describes this birth: http://eenriquez.multiply.com/journal/item/40/Un_elefante_en_la_maleta
But in this article, the breeding cow is named "Danya" and in your
referenced article, it's Renney or Rene. What's correct?
I think the sire of Bireky must be the tuskless bull Ramos, who is now
on a breeding loan at Africam Safari Park, Puebla for a certain time period. Because he was too dangerous, Circo de los Esqueda had given him to
Zacango Zoo in Toluca.
Although I was searching for Bireky and her mom for a long time, I could
not find any new reference and reliable information whether they are
still alive or not?
Do you have reliable information for me where to find these special animals? What is the name of the circus? What is its current elephant stock?
Best regards
