Not to be outdone, the jungle boys of Hollywood fashioned a similar pit containing Venice the tiger and an imperiled Clyde Beatty, for 1934's serial THE LOST JUNGLE. Things got a little hot down there during filming and Beatty had a real-life bad time with Venice in close confines.

Tinsel Town had a thing about pits in jungle serials. In 1936, Republic's first cliffhanger, DARKEST AFRICA, had Beatty scrambling for survival versus Bobby, a Louis Roth tiger. The action became too real as Beatty barely escaped Bobby's lethal intent. Directed by the notorious B. Reeves Eason, who gleefully risked disaster to achieve his shots, the second take in the pit came dangerously close to ending the serial a chapter too soon.
