AGAIN---WE HAVE A WONDERFUL SET OF PHOTOS. THANKS, SO MUCH, BUCKLES FOR SHOWING THEM, AND THANK YOU, PETER ROSA, FOR FURNISHING THEM.
What a difference 45 years can make. Today the circus arena and grounds are slowly being reclaimed by the land.
Previous photos of the old RB Venice buildings reveal the eyesore remains to remind us of a Section 8 reject.
I went to Google Earth and looked at the old winter quarters , pretty sad.
Yes Roger when I shot those last
photos of the front corner a few
months ago I could have cried
Not that it was ever anything but
a hodgepodge of building segments
some from the Sarasota site and
others from a salvage yard but
for the years that some of the
truly "TGSOE" shows went together
I am grateful to have been a part
of much of that
Seems such a darn shame it probaly will be demolished eventually. So much history and true American culture.I guess it comes down to economics.
I drove by it earlier this year.I had not been to the site in 35 years.Funny I cant recall the show,If memory serves me correct it was the Blue Premier. My mother, sister and her husband attended.
Venice folk should get an effort together to save the place.Perhaps as a community center.
Maybe I am wrong but I have seen worse buildings repaired.City fathers will use code to get rid of it.
At any rate It was spooky just to think of all the greats that trained their and have passed on.
If you close your eyes for a moment you could hear Harold Ronk singing,Tito doing the triple,Gunther with the cats, and Buckles working the bulls!!
THe kids today will never know just how important THe GSOE was!!
A huge part of America has died or is dying!!
