The Flying Wallendas were the circus-act feature on the 1933 debut of the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular. Also making their first appearance were the high-kicking Rockettes, formerly the Missouri Rockettes of St. Louis.
They HATED being referred to as The "Flying" Wallendas. They felt that the term was to be used only when referring to a trapeze act. Never felt that it was a good thing for a wire act to go "flying". ~frank

Who started calling them the "Flying Wallendas" and when did the term start being used?
Bob Kitto
Nowadays Tino Wallenda always uses Flying Wallendas. The originals must have hated it all the way to the bankl

History page from Tino Wallenda-Zoppe's web site that explains the origin of the name "THE FLYING WALLENDAS" came from a newspaper headline.
Tino will be inducted into the RING OF FAME at St. Armands Circle in January of 2010.
