Buckles:

Just saw great pic of Ferris Wheel from 1893. Attached is photo I took Circa 1983 of Wonder Wheel at Coney
Island. Built, I believe, in 1918 and in continuous operation since 1920....without a single accident. I took photo from
a rolling boat about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile off shore. I used a 500mm lens.

Best, Paul

PS All the buildings in background are now gone.

Wonderful picture, Paul. About then I was working at the zoo in the Bronx and my then girlfriend Sharon and I spent as much time as we could on Coney Island...."Before it disappeared." Just recently, moving back to New York State after a couple decades on the west coast I've thought a lot about what I can still show my kid that once seemed important to me and isn't gone It's nice that a few pieces of Coney Island are still there.

I have been told by several people that the scariest thing they've ever ridden is a movable car on the Wonder Wheel. They roll and swing swing along the kidney-shaped tracks as the wheel revolves. The Wonder Wheel continues to operate amidst the chaos and uncertainty of the Coney Island of today.
