Buckles: Sorry I didn't get this in earlier.

Am, I the only one on the blog who still calls today Armistice Day?

Do you kids know what the expression, "The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" means?

According to Arlo and Janis, there's only one American WW I vet left atop the sod and his name is Frank Buckles. That's right- BUCKLES.

This man lives in West Virginia and is 108 years old.

May God bless him, not so much for his longevity as for his service.

While scanning this "America" picture I suddenly recalled a song my father used to sing to himself when I was a kid called "Ivan Skavinsky Skavar'.
It detailed the fight to the death between the Russian Count Skavar and Abdul Abulbul Amir, a Muslim who at the moment of attack yelled "Allah-Akbar".
A phrase we are too familiar with today due to the recent Terrorist attack at Ft. Hood.

We also have the former "Decoration Day".

....when I was in the Army ('65-'68) it was "NO, troop, I said your Military Right...." and then there was "This is my rifle this is my...."

Ole Whitey - - What date would you put on this pic?

Stuart Thayer used to be able to identify the year of a wagon photo by the constumes of drivers and riders, subtle things that distinguished one year from another.

Richard: This is Buckles' pic, not mine. I merely supplied the chatter about Armistice Day.
