1952 Ringling Flier-1 (From Eric Beheim)

1952 Ringling Flier-1, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Here is the 16-page flier that Art Concello had printed up in 1952 for mass-distribution through the U.S. mails to cities when the Ringling-Barnum Circus would be showing. (According to David Lewis Hammarstrom, this flier was largely intended to help out local sponsors who were supposed to do some of the advance publicity for their show dates.) Looking at these action-filled photos today, I would certainly want to go and see the circus that was offering all of these attractions!

This picture of Paul Jerome probably dates from the 20s! The show certainly got their money's worth on THAT shot.

In the Don Marcks years of CIRCUS REPORT, there sometimes ran a cartoon panel, I believe by H.T. Webster, one with a kid excited over a circus flier, and this Paul Jerome pose was thereon.

I don't know Jerome's chronology, but I met him on Gil Gray sometime in the 50s, and again on RBB in '57.

Jerome was buried in Arlington, eligible for his military service. One historian told me the only one to send flowers was Emmett Kelly.
