Lalage was a beautiful woman. Her real name was Hedwig K. Roth. I think she was a German national. I do not know how she managed to escape internment as an enemy alien during W.W.II.
A number of RBBB performers were interred, e.g., Fritz Schultz, one of Alfred Court’s trainers, and Erich Hagenbeck, son of Lorenz Hagenbeck who, based on the model of his family’s great zoo in Stellingen (Hamburg), designed the outdoor Sarasota WQ hippo pool and grotto and the monkey island, both built while the show was on the road in 1941.
I well her recall Lalage’s spectacular performance above the center ring in 1945. She did the plange patented by Leitzel. We counted her revolutions - -up near a 100 as I recall.
Wall Street Journal online edition story about Brenda Lee where she credits Richard Barstow for her choreography.
Officials at Show Folks told me that they are in the process of scanning and cleaning all the photos and that these photos will be placed on the club's web site.
The new bar took lots of work; tip o the hat to the volunteers. Even Mr. Miser, RBBB Cannon Act Brian's father, was on hand to rip up the floor. Mr. Miser was at the club last week with a HUGE beer stein from his recent trip to the Oktoberfest in Germany.

The medal awarded to LaLage, on her induction into the Ring of Fame at St. Armands circle is framed and on display at Show Folks of Sarasota.
Also, RBBB Director Richard Barstow's medal is on display too.
There are more than 800 photos of circus notables on display at the club, with many more in storage.
Mike,
Casey Cainan just emailed me, and wanted to know if his photo was on display, or was it in storage? Do you know anything about that?
