Found at last!

DSC00416, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

At Ringling Circus World about 1975 Chappie Fox tipped me off about a man in Orlando who claimed to have a piece of Jumbo's tusk for sale.
I invited him out and it looked authentic, can't remember what I paid for it maybe $100 or less.
My wife found it yesterday in a lock box in the bank.
Shannon photographed both sides for me.

Was this part of the tusk embedded in the socket?

There are a number of cross-sectional pieces of the solid part of the tusks in existence.

When placed on display with Barnum & London, there were no tusks with the skeleton. The 1888 photo makes it difficult to discern if there were tusks with the mounted hide, but there were tusks with it at Tufts.
