I have $5.00 that says this is the New Scotland Avenue Armory, Albany, New York.

The date was usually played the first weekend in March; sometimes the weather was 55 degrees and sometimes it was 25 degrees.

There were two huge overhead doors, one at the end of the building (by the rear grandstand in this photo) and one on the side of the building behind center ring.

When the doors were opened to let in the elephants a whoosh of air (mild or very cold) would be created.

The building was sold by New York State to a medical research concern.

The Shriners lost a ton of money one year during a blizzard that closed down the entire Northeast. Trying to "outfox" the weather, the committee changed the "date" from March to other times, including the fall. The Albany Shrine date losts its punch and became a thing of the past.

Oh, the acts you'd see there!

Similar situation in my area. A local festival had run in August for several years and then they had 2 years in a row with some rain. The next year they moved it to June and it rained them out then also. Last year with the June floods, the park they used was under water and still is, so no more festival.
