Gunther Gebel Williams (From Henry Penndorf)

Ringling Elephants.6 - Gunther, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Hello Bill,

I was surprised that none of your readers mentioned that September 12, would have been Gunther Gebel-Williams seventy-fifth birthday.

Stay well,

Henry

Yes and mine was on the 13th. On the 12th we used to have a drink after the show on him and then after 12 one for me. He was 13 years older then me, started at the Williams show at that age the year I was born. Still think about him a lot, he was a great guy.

Ahh,
A photo of the "Gunther"
I must say this photo best depicts the part I will always remember of this man, the few times I got to visit with him, when he stepped into ring,

"A King of Kings among Showman"

That is one of my favorite pictures of Gunther. Happy Birthday Henry. I had a few drinks for you yesterday!

Do you use money in New Zealand? I thought you just lived off the fat of the land?

Thanks, Henry, for posting the photo -- it's one of my all-time favorites of GGW.

I had forgotten it was his birthday. So glad to be reminded.

Always and forever, "The Lord of the Rings."

Henry,
As do I think about him often. He was unique. I celebrate my 55 birthday on the 16th. Charly's is today, and your's was the 13th. Pretty amazing. Happy Birthday.

Taking a closer look at this photo, it's apparent that Gunther had a knack for putting a smile on folks faces, however you can also tell the first two cows are hoping that what ever bit Boss in the rear doesn't get to them.
The Ivory bring up the rear I assume would be "Kongo"?
PS.
Great shot Mr.Schroer.
I will now remember his birthday as a few of my own tribe; my grandfather was born on the
"First of May",my father on 9/11 and I on 9/13.

Yes sir, September 1934 was the birth month of some famous people. I too claim that month and year (Sept 26th). I jokingly tell folks that three famous people were born in Sept. 1934 - -Gunther, Sophia Loren and I. What’s more I believe Barbara Woodcock is just a few days or weeks behind me.

Wasn't this Great Gunther picture taken by Paul Gutheil?

Buckles: I have some pictures that I am trying to identify. Is there a place that I can email them to you at and see if you can help? I have grown up with these pictures, but no one seems to know who these circus folks are.

Thanks,

Thanks to everyone for the Birthday wishes.
Yes Buckles, the have social security here, but it is not very much, about $150 US a week. Still got three more years to go but I will get some from the good old USA and from Germany as well. I'll be rich.
