Picking up on Don Covington's elephant sculptures, here's one from one of the four corners of the (Prince) Albert Memorial in London. Very detailed. Queen Victoria certainly left a lasting tribute to her husband!

As the late Dick Conover, mentor to many circus historians, pointed out nearly 50 years ago in his "European Influence on the American Circus Parade" article, the four sculptural groups at the Prince Albert Memorial were the sources for the original carved tops of the Barnum & Bailey continent wagons of Europe, Africa, Asia, and America. The later two, with carvings removed and tops extended to haul baggage, survive at Baraboo. The top carvings for Europe and Africa survive in two major American history museums but the wagons are lost. The sculptural group seen here represents Asia.
