I knew Earl Shipley well along with his wife Hattie, I believe. He was a good clown and very well thought of in the business. Not an ass kisser, but just a nice fellow. He later became the first out door representative for the American Guild Of Variety Artists [AGVA] and would frquently visit all the shows [and of course collect dues]. Later Joe Antalek would get the job. But Earl made the pill A little easier to swallow. However I believe the AGVA was alright and its too bad that Hamid and others in fighting with Irvin Feld pretty well doomed it with their Circus Producers contract. But that argumentive and another story. The jest of it was that Irvin, after taking over Ringling signed a contract of no more Pro-Rata contracts and insisted that producers with AGVA acts should do the same, so Hamid and Co. could not abide by that, so so nlong Agva, except for Ringling and Penny Singleton. Just a thumb nail aketch in about was happening in those days.

Looks like Paul Jerome's buddy and Billy Ward's uncle, Earl Shipley.
