This was the back lot area of the Circus World Museum, which I believe was owned by Baraboo buisnesman Wilbur Deppe. Mr. Deppe was a great supporter of the CWM, but on that particular day, when he pulled up in his 1969 gold Oldsmobile "Toranado" and saw the 3 elephants playing on his dirt pile, I recall his words to be something like: " Get those #%&# elephants off my dirt pile!!!"
These photos, taken 40 years ago, may well be the first that John Herriott is aware of this incident!
The boys are sons of well known circus historian Dan Draper.

That's the winter quarters building of Deppe's Classic Country Circus in the background.
Wilbur, son Dave and grandson Tim have all done yeoman duty for Circus World Museum for decades.
So did Frankie Braun. There ought to be a building named for him.
