the Mills gave these Christmas shows in London to great acclaim for decades; competitor Billy Smarts also later did Christmas shows in London, too, i believe--in fact, it was the Christmas shows that put Bertram Mills in the circus business, layer leading to a full fledged tent show season via railroad which went on for many many years--I believe Sue and Rudi Lenz were on the tent show edition. Ultimately the Mills even took their circus public, long before RBBB went public. The Xmas dates were the creme of the circus biz, featuring acts from the U.S. and Europe and annual visits from the royal family. I think the Mills finally quit the biz for good in the 60s as the sons who took over the show got older and business conditions for a railroad circus became less and less attractive in the UK...a great and classy circus in its glory days. One that i am sorry to have missed along with Billy Smarts show...

I stand to be corrected, but I believe that Mills ceased to tour after the 1964 season, but continued the winter shows until the 1966-67 season.
