When I was in High School, & for a while afterward I had a part time job as a "soda jerk", in Wren's Dept. Store Cafeteria, in Springfield, Ohio. One day I was out during lunch hour & saw the King Show parade, my lunch hour wound 3 hours long, & my boss threatened to chain me to the soda fountain when there was a circus in town'
By the way, if any of you "old timers",. long for an old fashioned "Ice Cream Soda", made with ice cream, flavoring, & seltzer water, Ruby Tuesdays has them.

Yes, Bill, but nobody makes Phosphates any more. They were seltzer and flavoring (I liked vanilla) and Phosphoric Acid (just a tetch) and have apparently disappeared from the American Scene.

By the way I hope the girl in this picture was saluting the American Flag and not just shielding her eyes from the sun. When we were kids we always showed the Flag respect. When it was shown in a movie, everyone applauded- how many of you remember that?

Bill - I think the year was '67 or '68, it was the first year the Feld's brought RBBB to The Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, CA. I was riding my bike to summer school, through the old train yards in downtown Los Angeles when I came across Max Schaffer. I asked him how I could get a job with the show and he told me to go out to the Forum and he would put me to work in concessions. I forgot all about summer school, road the 35 miles out there, and started as a candy butcher in the seats that night. ~frank
(Didn't get through until almost midnight and had to call my Dad to pick me up. He was more than a little ticked, but let me do it for the summer because it was my first job.)

I saw the King show in Marietta, GA in the spring of ’54. It offered the two worst acts I’ve ever had to sit through - -the riding Conleys and flying Farfans. Both acts looked like they were rehearsing for the first time. I’m not alone in this observation. Maybe both lacked key members but for whatever reason, both were awful.

Richard, Are you sure on the correct name of the flying act?

I concur with Richard Reynolds that both the riding act and flying act were well below standard. Especially with the riding act after having had The World Renowned Riding Cristiani Family for so many years on King-Cristiani. One correction - the flying act was The Flying LaForms - not Farfans. Walter Jennier with Buddy the Seal and his wife Ethel working her supberb single trap act as Miss Aerialetta - - more than made up for the other acts mentioned. Wish I could see it all again - Charles Hanson

To Jim Cole: Many thanks for sharing these King Bros Circus photos with all of us on Buckles Blog. I lived in Macon, Georgia during the Floyd King/Cristiani years ...... So these photos are especially meaningful to me. Thanks Thanks Thanks Charles Hanson

Ahh - -LaForms it was. They were just terrible. Missed catches with the flyer(?) climbing back to try again and failing again.
