King Bros. Circus 1954 #2

June 28, 1954 King Bros. #1, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

"Interesting shot of the elephants early in the morning following the overnight drive.
As mentioned before, the Cole Show elephants had to leave the final few weeks of the season due to a previous commitment. D.R. Miller had made a deal to supply two 3 acts and for some reason included us in the deal. Fred Logan took "Kay", "Barbara" and "Hattie" and my dad's three were "Anna May", "Fanny" and "Lydia".
There were two harness elephants "Alice" and "Mona" remaining on the show when we arrived but I can't for the life of me remember the name of the guy working them. It wasn't long before he was doing something else and Logan got a few bucks to work them on the lot. I sure wanted to do that but my dad said no in a hurry since that Alice would roll you around.
I always felt that our offerings were a bit of a disappointment since the elephants were smaller and didn't require show girls. No long mount on the track either.
Oddly enough I don't remember ever seeing Floyd King. All business matters were handled by Arnold Maley.

Dear Buckles:

Tried to post this on your website but for some reason, (probably personal incompetence) I could not.

Thought that some of your readers would be interested to know that the Cole elephants that were missing from the Show on 28 June 54 (also missing when I saw the Show in New London, Ct on the 25th) was because they were the elephants in the movie "Elephant Walk" starring Elizabeth Taylor and Dana Andrews. They were returned to the Show a couple weeks later after the Newport date. The elephants played a better role than Dame Elizabeth.

Enjoy your blog very much
