Coley Bay was a trick horse that did many tricks onstage and the Campbell sisters sang western music in the style of Roy Rogers, Gene Autrey and such. They performed on many stages and radio and TV. They wre once asked to perform for the President of the United States. Mr Truman thought that Coley Bay was quite intelligent and took quite a liking to her.
This photo was taken around 1942. The people in the picture are my Uncle Ed Lewis known as The Montana Kid; sitting with him is my Aunt Jane Cambell Lewis who is still with us at 91 years of age and standing is my mother Lorene Campbell Aker who passed away in 1978. The horse is indeed Coley Bay the Wonder Horse. The picture itself is from an 8x10 promo shot the act used during its heyday of touring with the vaudville circuit and George Hamid productions.
Anyone who has further information or photos of this act , please contact me at beamoc1@Yahoo.com
My father in-law recently passed away and we found a picture of the horse, the sisters and the montana kid which they had signed on the back. If you would like I will see if I can scan it and send it to you.
