Flying Eldonas

Eldon and JoAnn Day and Wayne Larey.
Art Concello was faithful to his flyers, both Eldon and Wayne were around the Ringing Show for years in various capacities.

I believe the gentleman on the right is actually Billy Snyder, flyer, catcher, acrobat, & always had a smile had a friendly smile & an easy going personality.

Both Wayne Larey and Eldon Day were still with RBBBC when we were on the Red Unit during the 1970’s.

Wayne was the Purchasing agent and Eldon was the Timekeeper.
Sadly in the late 1970’s Eldon lost his battle with throat cancer.

To agree with Ms. Lenz, the last time I visited with Eldon Day on the Ringling show, he was Timekeeper for the workingmen. Always a nice guy who shared many memories of his flying days.

I also recall a visit to the show at the Memorial Coliseum in downtown Dallas, when Fay Alexander came on to fill in for a flyer, possibly Roger Morales, who was being drafted into the Army. Rosie beseeched Fay not to go for the big tricks for just one day, but Fay insisted on throwing his doubles over the bar and his two-and-a-halfs. Walter Patterson stood beside me and said in wonder, "What a master he is." You bet.

This is a picture of Joanne Day, she is my biological mother when she was married to Joseph Pilla and she and Eldon are the parents to my half brother David. Although we have never met her I understand she still lives in northern Florida. She gave both of up back in the early 60's to a wonderful circus family called the Conner's in Gainesville Texas.

I am Michael's baby sister, and I too was given up for adoption at birth and raised seperately from the other kids. Also, like Michael and David, I was raised around the circus for several years as my adopted parents, Norman and Barbara Wadkins worked for the Shrine Circus. Joanne is still in Florida and she and I communicate periodically. We kids connected (finally!)about four years ago after looking for each other for years.

Thank you Buckles, for reminding me of my heritage periodcially. Many of the pictures that I see on your website, make it to mine. People say that this answers a lot of questions they have about me... can't imagine what they mean by that...

I, too, was the daughter of Joanne and Eldon, although my broyther Joey and I were both mostly raised by our grandmother, Bebe Siegrist...aerialist, mother, grandmother and a great lady who had concern for ALL of her grandchildren. My children's greatest treasures are pictures of her and my grandfather, Joe..I miss her and thank her for teaching me about love and family.Nonny, May all your days be Circus Days!!

My turn, I am the eldest grandchild of Eldon and Joanne.
I remember going to the Ringling
Show when his unit came to town.
He and Grandma Peggy took us all over the place from wardrobe to the elephants and of course the riggings. There is still nothing like the Circus! Nonny always made sure we never forgot where we came from and who we were. Mom always made sure we kept a little sawdust in our veins and a great love for the circus and the talented people in it. Thanks to Mom and Nonny I have a treasurechest full of memories and love. MAY ALL YOUR DAYS BE CIRCUS DAYS!!!

Joanne passed away Thursday night 8-6-09 in her sleep. I am sad to hear this as I had never met her or even talked to her and as her being my biological mother I had hoped we would make contact.
