Mike Naughton has confirmed that following a triumphal tour of West Texas, closing in Laredo June 7, the Gold Unit will jump to New York City for a three month engagement at Coney Island (June 17 thru Sept. 7). Details below: Newspaper reports that TACONIC INVESTMENTS owns property on 22 Street where the circus might be held. The only lot of any size that might be appropriate is this one; there is a dead end street on the far side which could be blocked off for parking show equipment. |

I must remember to call Bill Powell today and advise him to get some WAIT paper up before Universoul cleans the town out!
Ringling appearing at Coney Island. I'm sure that somewhere, Sam Gumpertz is scratching his head and wondering why HE didn't think to do this.
In the lower right corner of the picture you can see Emmett Kelly leaning on Lou Jacobs' shoulder.

The above links will show you a photograph of the lot on Surf and 21st Street, Brooklyn, New York.
I HAVE NO DEFINITE INFORMATION that this will be the lot; this location was mentioned in several newspaper articles.
There is a feature on google maps that allows you to turn the camera around so you can get a good look at the neighborhood.
As a rank amateur 17 year old, I was hired by Steeplechase Park to perform strolling entertainment on Sundays in the summer of 1973 for the big money of $25. per day. It was a two hour subway ride from the northwest Bronx to Coney Island, but I was in show business.
From Wikipedia, some interesting facts on Brooklyn.
Coney Island is in Brooklyn, for those not familiar with the area.
Brooklyn (named after the Dutch town Breukelen) is one of the five boroughs of New York City, located at the western end of Long Island. An independent city until its consolidation with New York in 1898, Brooklyn is New York City's most populous borough, with 2.5 million residents,[1] and second largest in area. If the borough were a separate city, it would be the fourth-largest city in the United States. Since 1896, Brooklyn has had the same boundaries as Kings County, which is now the most populous county in New York State, and the second most densely populated county in the United States, after New York County (Manhattan).[2][3]
Though a part of New York City, Brooklyn maintains a distinct culture, independent art scene, and unique architectural heritage. Many Brooklyn neighborhoods are ethnic enclaves where particular ethnic groups and cultures predominate.
