The comments from Mr. Ryan sure bring back the memories.
Before the Blog came along I had faithfully kept a journal the previous 20 years.

Buckles, please show the cover of the "People" magazine from the same 1978, and the pics that made the magazine from our run in MSG. Cool..even now, it is still exciting to see these pics and read about it. Karen Glenn

I know this is off subject, but what do they mean, "Rock Queen"????
I must have been listening to a different Linda Ronstadt all these years.

Hey Bill, you're absolutely right! I remember seeing Linda Ronstadt at the height of her popularity in concert under the St. Louis Arch for their big summer riverfront celebration and she was the worst stage performer that I've ever seen. She stood in front of the microphone like a fence post, never moved, never interacted with the (HUGE) crowd, sang about 20 minutes and walked offstage. A real disappointment to say the least. Just goes to show how some recording artists should just stay in the studio and never tour...

linda's forte does not seem to have been concerts. when i saw her during that period, her back was turned to the audience most of the time. Yet, when i saw her live in pirates of penzance on broadway, she was an adorable and effective mabel, playing well against another rock star, rex smith. the only problem was that her voice was not quite strong enough for the demands of the role, particularly in poor wandering one, where she needed all the tricks of the studio to get through. mabel was finally performed with perfection by the brilliant maureen mcgovern, another pop singer, toward the end of the run, and maureen went on the become a great singer of show music and did several more broadway shows.
