Howard was a long-time figure around Thousand Oaks and the Compound. I can't figure the difference in surnames, but he was a brother to the Tyndall brothers, Henry and Norman. Henry, in spite of relentless claims by every other chimp trainer, had the Cheetah chimps in the Weissmuller and Lex Barker Tarzan films, and the Tamba chimps for Weissmuller's Jungle Jim pictures. Norman was a great hay-stock man, leading scores of camels across the burning sands in the desert pictures. Howard made sporadic forays into the Compound and around the studios, but was never in evidence during my years there.
Henry and Norman were Native Americans of the Omaha tribe. Henry's chimp room was adjacent to the Big Stage Arena, and we became fast friends. He surprised me one day by giving me a gunbelt and boots given him by Terrell Jacobs.
Howard is my great uncle . My grandmother was his sister. The Tyndall brothers were not blood related . I believe they were his brother-n-laws . Howard's wife was an American Indian and she had some brothers.
