Does anyone know what has become of Art Concello's 3 rr cars that were parked at his property off of 17th Street? They are gone. Here is a picture of one them I took last summer.
John

I WAS TOLD THAT RANDY CONCELLO SOLD THEM A FEW MONTHS AGO BUT I FORGOT TO WHOM AND THERE IS NO ONE TO ASK SINCE RANDY PASSED AWAY A FEW WEEKS AGO.
JENNY WALLENDA

It is true, Randy dropped dead several weeks ago.

Just went by the Old Concello car site and noticed the three cars are gone...Maybe Bob Horne would know..I find it hard to believe that train cars would just disappear without anyone here in Sarasota didn't hear or see them going down the street...

Just call Randy as he inherited

the cars along with most of the

rest of "known" assets

I'd bet that like Digger Pugh

many assets were so buried they

will never surface

A report posted elsewhere states that they were scrapped.

In January 1986 I was in Sarasota and scouted out a lot of old circus and circus property sites. Bob MacDougal told me where I could find the Concello cars. In general terms, they were on a siding that ran off the old ACL right of way as you headed north from Fruitville Rd. The track led into Concello’s property.

At Concello’s compound there was a fence that blocked the view from the street.

I stepped around it through an opening which afforded a decent photo shot. I had no sooner done so when here came two snarling Dobermans. They seemed to mean business so I just slowly turned and walked to my car. I could tell they were right on my heels, but I did nothing untoward and acted as nonchalant as possible. They turned back as I got into my car. And that was that. But I did get a couple of good pics.

I then found that there was a photo vantage point on a wider street that ran behind the property and I took more pictures there - - from across a small pond that offered a good view away from the dogs.

I'm told that the cars were

scrapped in place as they were

no longer capable of going

anywhere by rail

They had virtually rotted &

rusted beyond recognition

oldest daughter & the car she's

talking about was the "Randy"

No I'm not. I thought about the year was probably 1984... I was only about 11. But living there for a short time left me with a good story!

Kenny & I visited Art in those

cars behind the strip of shops

& offices he bought so he could

have the siding which had been

the Wyerhauser Lumber company's

He kept 1 office for "NorthArt"

the last of his official empire

The 3rd car was inherited from

Rudy Bundy

When Art removed the cars from

a spur in Venice they were taken

to a siding on airport property

across Old 301 where they stayed

many years without charge

I'm not related to the family. Nor will I share any details. Just interested in seeing the photo of the train car. When I tell people I lived there, they think I' m crazy :) . I can still see and remember it all vividly. You can see the propert on google maps and the cars are no longer there. Too bad they were super cool! When I lived there Art was just building the office/store building in the front.
