THis was originally a Holiday Inn.This was where the after groundbreaking ceremomys were held.I went to groundbreaking but couldnt get in.It was by invite only.Former CFA President and curator of Ringling Museum Of The Circus John Hurdle told me the food was increible. Those were the days.Right behind this Inn Hoxie wintered here in 74.THey were gonna open Hoxie Brothers OLd Fashioned Circus World next to WEstgate REsort. This very close ,perhaps two miles from Disneys Maingate. It never opened. I visited with Hoxie and John Hall at the site.Nothing but organge groves at the time
Yes this looks like the Holiday Inn where Irvin and Allen Bloom and company would stay when they visited the park. just days before the big CW showcase opening with all the VIPs and big shots from the arena world I had one of my first "dressing downs" from Irvin in that hotel as only Irvin could deliver them. for a 22 year old kid suddenly in charge of publicizing his dream being on the receiving end of an Irvin confrontation was an eye opening, nerve wrenching experience! Thank God for Allen who was a great "buffer."
but wouldn't it be so great to have an irvin feld or allen bloom to moke sure the greatest show on earth was teh greatest show on earth, as opposed to simply being better that the other lackluster shows of today?
Jerry, I am surprised that therapy was not necessary after that. Or at least regular medication. LOL Given the assignment of papering the dream of the MAN, and then finding out you had somehow fallen short, I should think would be terribly traumatizing. Wade Burck
Chic, I agree with you 100%. Irvin was THE most honorable producer I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with, as well as one of the most encouraging. He had a knack of getting the most out of you, and he made you feel like you were an important part of his plans. I feel a real master at dealing with "artists" and their emotions. Add that the the likes of Allen Bloom and his staff, and for my money there has never been any group of men as good at what they did as those gentlemen were. Wade

Hi Jerry
Your note reminds me of some
terrifying breakfast meetings
in that hotel back then
When I would see the parsley
on the plate as the waitress
put it down in front of HIM
my only thought was how to
escape to the doniker

Credit where due Irvin was very
good about offering praise when
he felt that you accomplished
things he felt enhanced the show
I had the greatest respect for him
and his brother Isreal although
"Izzy" rarely had a chance to get
many words in he was supportive
They both had intense feelings
for everything about the show
and although they (he) were (was)
more eager to spend Mattel's
money than their own both shows
became greatly improved under
their guidance
Profit was not the main objective
(as they had carefully separated
what had previously been the
Lawson/Concello Concession Co)
