After the usual Buccaneer melt down, I had hoped that we might get something more interesting for tonight's Super Bowl, like a match up between the Manning brothers but alas it was not to be. And if that old drama queen Brent Musberger is involved in any way, I will enjoy a totally silent evening. |

Here's my football story for today: When I was GM on the Red show, Jim Ragona came to me rather upset, it seemed as if the sound crew and prop crew had a TV near the backdoor, and were watching a football game during the performance. He wanted me to scold them severely, as he thought it was possible they would miss their cues. I had to explain to Jim, that was not likely to happen, as I had been watching the football game with them earlier! Jim started to walk off, he then turned around and said to me in his usual jovial patter, "football, now that's the one with a point on each end?" With that being said, Jim was an excellent Performance Director.

Amen, Buckles. You nailed it!
Eric,
One of the best, as well as one of Ringling's Greatest Ringmaster's. The wonderful memories and laughs sharing a dressing room with he and Daniel Suskow are my fondest Ringling memories. I am resentful, as Jim was the best man at my wedding that, he didn't make more of an effort to stop it. LOL

We were in the back area of Madison Sq. Garden waiting for the Romeo & Juliet Spec when a Japanese gentleman with a camera approached and asked if I would be kind enough to take a picture of himself with the Ringmaster whom he admired very much.
I went over to Jim and explained the situation and he immediately agreed but as soon as the picture was snapped he turned and demanded, "Now how did you get back in this restricted area? You have no business back here, leave immediately and don't come back!"
I laughed til my sides ached, I told Jim, "How can you hate a guy that will pose for a picture before he insults you and chases you off?"
On the Beatty-Cole show there were two small rabbit ear5 sets on both levels of the bandstand during Sun. Matinees and on Ringling the TVs were common in the hallways, etc. No deptmnts missed a cue and we all watched at times.
A sunday in Denver the Governer and family were in the audience. As Perf. Dir. I seated and greeted them. He said he would miss the Broncos Game, but had to bring the kids to the circus. I kept him up on the swcore at various times. Right before spec I told Rgmstr. Kit Haskett io announce to the audience, Broncos 17 and oppoesing 0 at intermission. He said he had strict orders from Irvin, absolutely no local annoncements during performance. I said,"Kit I take full resposibility, so do as I say". He did and the whole audience roared in approval. It wasn't only the Gov. that was missing the action. Some public service announcements can be appreciated and beneficial. "Doctor Quack would you please contact your answering service" Its good for a prop stall.
YouTube is carrying ads rejected for airing on the Super Bowl broadcast including one from PETA that flaunts a sexy lingerie model. Just go to YouTube and search for "super bowl peta ad."
Hey Buckles - How about an update on the Super Bowl-related cooch business in Tampa. And, did they ever square it for the broad tossers and nuts to work?
BUCKLES = AT SHOEFOLKS TONIGHT A ROUND OF APLASE WAS HERD AFTER THE NATONAL ANTHEM = HOPE YOU HAD YOUR VOLUME UP IT WAS GREAT=RAY M
Makes me wish I had turned up the volume sooner.
I did manage to catch General Petraeus make the coin toss tho.
Shannon is here for the game and during half time I had him adjust the frames and color of an assortment of Henry Schrorer pictures that I will show in the morning.
Unfortunately I missed the Rock Concert. Did they get a good hand too?
That was a great game.
Six Super Bowl Championships for Pittsburgh.
Good think about the footy we had the first australian to play Ben
Graham from the Geelong AFL Footbll club in Victoria i have seen him play for Geelong many times Robert Perry Australia
Watched the Superbowl in the Fox Sports Bar at the Phoenix airport on the way home to California from Hugo. A loud crowd got pretty morose when the end came. But it was a great game, and both the national anthem and the halftime show were well done. Big change from the errors of several past years.
Big Bens late touchdown cost me a saddle I was on a pot for. I thought when the Cards got the safety then quick TD it was mine. Thanks Ben I hope you lose your Superbowl ring in the drain of you septic tank!
Can't say I was all that impressed with the halftime show...although being in the technical side of the business has kind of ruined watching shows for me. I always see the mistakes and then have to think how I would do it better! But the game was great and the company I was in for the night couldn't be beat!
I saw Jim Ragona yesterday at Circus Sarasota. Any time clowns get together his name usually comes up as he was the butt of a lot of their practical jokes over the years. But he was usually a good sport and I think we all have a lot of respect for the man. After Harold Ronk, he's always been my favorite Ringmaster and I've always looked up him as a performer.
Finally, we were in Boston in 2004 during the American League Championship Series and the only backstage tv in the common areas was just outside the back door and there was a major crowd there from start to finish. In fact, there were probably more people watching the game backstage than there were watching the show in the arena on those nights!
And now a word from the Ringmaster in Question......It used to drive me crazy that everyone was in the men's showers watching the Superbowl and not watching the floor....I can't say that anyone ever missed a cue, but I can say that more than one brawl was started by a few dollars and dukie books being lost on many a game. The best of all was when I wone the big superbowl pool on the blue show in Atlanta one year. Quite a few Benjamins and I will never forget Silly Billy Seely fuming about the fact that I, of all people, won it. "You don't even watch Football", says he, "No", said I, "but I do love the costumes!" He sulked away mumbling under his breath.
Pittsburgh...6 Super Bowls....
Green Bay...3 Super Bowls..and 9 Championships (12 total)..Case Closed!!! Go Pack!!!
Listening to someone ridicule Buffalo for losing 4 Super Bowls in a row, I asked, "How in the hell many teams have reached the Super Bowl 4 years in a row?
