Street Parade - - Atlanta, Monday morning, October 17, 1938. Elephants marching north along Whitehall St, nearing Alabama Street (site of present Underground Atlanta complex)
I am happy to report that I saw Robbins Bros. during this visit to Atlanta. Though only 4-years old, I have these recollections.
On the Highland Ave. lot - - Sunday October 16th - -
Walking to lot from our house with my parents. We had no automobile at that time, and it a little over a mile's walk. It was a beautiful warm sunny day
Seeing balloon stands etc. along Highland Ave. as we approached the circus grounds.
Raising of the big top
Watching some guys feed baggage stock on the lower level of the lot.
Leaving the lot and going around the corner onto Elizabeth St where a huge litho of Frank Buck was plastered on the bricks of a storeside (It was the familiar Buck head shot with animals all around him, and of course it was advertising the coming of Barnes-SF/RBBB the next month) - -that building is still there. |
