In a nutshell, I am aware that the parade has long since passed me by.
Due to the change of times and considering today's economy, this show pretty much fits in with others cranked out in recent times.

Friend Buckles, How many performing bulls did they have ?
Overall total?
Did you take all the show photos ?
They're great!

How about a retro parade for us
"oldtymers"?!

The show carries 11 elephants and all appear in the display.
This is no easy job, with no containment they have to work around the props.

Yes, love the elephants, glad to hear the acts are great! Still can't stand those drab colors to frame everything.

Yes, magnificent photos Buckles!

Thanks,
Carl

Do they still pipe in "canned" applause to give the illusion of enthusiastic audience response?

Well, Buckles, let me try this again sinceI apparently did somehing wrong and got censored in my first attempt to post to this thread.

$12.00 floss with a hat. I bought wizzard hats for my Berkshire Children's Circus production of a Harry Potter based show in 2007 for 18.00 a dozen. The floss machines are paid for years ago and sugar cost what, $.50 per bag (no costs for cones these days) and that is not a good welcome to the show.

The arena in the photos looks empty - no ring curbs, no nothing. I hate those inflatable ring curbs. So the sliding ice show boxes are replaced by some kind of hexagonal sliding boxes?
Am I supposed to believe there is really a live elephant in that box? Of course, a single still photo does not tell the whole story but that is really hard to believe. At least the cannon looked like a cannon and I can only assume the two ladies (who are they?) land in air bags somewhere.
I guess I am spoiled by memories of 18(I believe) elephants on the Gunther farewell tour that I worked, you with 22 on the blue show as so beautifully pictured in the photos, and the grandure of the shows in the past. I've seen an act similar to the Chineese thing before and it escapes me as to what it is supposed to be while the pictures of the swing act look like it is something amazing. But no flying act? Yet another wheel? My memories and the current reality just do not match.
I'll go see this thing, of course, but with much lower expectations than "The Greatest Show on Earth".
How much I miss you and your family and Anna Mae with such quiet grace and showmanship, Gunther with his spectacular showmanship and presentation, Axle Gauthier and his sons with their athelticism, and even Mark Oliver as he struggled to fill the role of his father.
I gues I'm just and old man who wants some things in my life to remain the same. If I want to see a Broadway show, I'll go to see Wicked, Phantom, Les Miz, or the latest greatest hit. I don't know where to go to see a real American Circus now. I enjoyed Carson and Barnes this year for wht it was, I enjoyed UniverSoul for what it was. I was under whelmed with Belobration even with Bello. This is not the Greatest Show on Earth. I guess I should watch the movie yet again.

Warren,
Evansville, IN. Starts Thanksgiving Day. You can read about it in the current White Tops. It's worth the trip.

Thanks, Buckles, for keeping us all informed on opening night. Nice photos as others are noting (and following on the fine set of Evansville from Mr. Hall).

Just occurred to me that I failed to mention that Ben took these pictures.
I was impressed too since we were seated a quarter of a mile away and I didn't expect the detail.

Who else would pay to see buckles riding around in the tea cups as a zingmaster in training wearing a wizard hat and blinking clown nose???? AC

Indeed, sir, the parade may have long since passed, but it was one fine march for a good long time, and I for one am grateful for you and all the others who were in it!

nothing but critics anymore. the times have changed no one wants to see the old time circus anymore. all the critics should be happy that there still is circus around. did the critics ever think that the next generation would like some support instead of the constant critism of how bad of a job we are doing.

The critics have seen GREAT CIRCUSES before the new generation came thinking they are doing a great job.
The circus has to change with the times, it is an evolution process not a revolution process.
Just because you have an idea about how to improve the circus doesn't mean it's a good idea. Every mother has convinced themselves that their baby is the most beautiful; just like your idea(s) on improving the circus.
Just because it is yours doesn't make it adorable.

Don't tell me I should be happy because there is still a circus around -- I don't settle for anything less than the best.
