Looking at this picture today, I now wonder if this bear was aware that there was no top on the "vestibule" cage, and if he was thinking about grabbing a quick bite to eat before joining his brethren in the big wagon! |

On one of the very few occasions that we ever showed in a building, we used a similar principle to transfer our lion act from the trailer cage into the buildings in Tasmania, Australia.
Wouldn't have risked it without a roof on the vestibule though.
Was this a regular way of doing it or did somebody just "forget" - on the very day that a camera was there to record the oversight?
Steve,
While being unsafe, I think they were depending on the the "shortness" of the makeshift chute, and the stepping out on a pedestal, and quickly into the wagon as their ace in the hole.

I must be missing something in all of these pictures. Where are the cages hooked or chained together?Bob Kitto
In 78 when we used some of these cages for Charlies tigers you couldn't chain them on the doorslide side? I did have the bottom chains on under the doors. Sides went up when two were parked side by side and that way two tigers shared more room, just a pain in the ass setting up and tearing down between everyshow.
Gary,
You were being kind by referring to them as a "pain in the ass." If there was ever a Rubiks cube for animals the Ringling transport cages were it.

Wade, I hear ya, and if I had built that transfer cage she used without a top, it would have been MY ASS in a sling with Charlie!
Please folks
You all know better
It's CHARLY not Charlie
