WILD CARGO opened in New York’s Radio City Music Hall on March 29, 1934. Buck appeared in person between the screenings, thereby helping to insure record-breaking crowds. (Clyde Beatty was also supposed to appear between screenings of his film THE BIG CAGE, but Sam Gumpertz refused to let him do so, thus giving Beatty one more reason for breaking with Ringling.)
WILD CARGO paints a picture in the public's mind more than ZZZ. Whatever the public conjures up in their mind is a stronger message than what is actually written or drawn. WILD CARGO spurs the imagination. ZZZ makes you ask, "What the F+++ is that?"
Like BRING 'EM BACK ALIVE, WILD CARGO went on to earn a mint of money. Considering what movie tickets cost in 1934 and what they cost today, its earnings would probably be in the high nine figures if adjusted for 2009 dollars.
