I believe that is Birdliver, Boss Canvasman, on the right. Please correct me if I am wrong.
This looks like Bird, aka Floyd Baker. He has thrown the hitch on the hook, while the crew shove up the hi-jack. One of the guys will hold the hitch, and Bird would move up to the base of #1. The hitch was wrapped and not tied, in case you had to throw it off in an emergency. When he was boss canvasman, on Uncle Sid's, he would throw me a fin, when he was short-handed, to tie off the quarter pole jump ropes. The last time we trouped together, he was working for Rex on the Vargas show. Great old photo!

Sorry but Bird wasn't that size
since he was eleven or twelve
He was a great guy but much
greater in the girth
Chic
I don't remember him being greater in girth, perhaps it was the pistol he carried in his pocket, that made him appear larger!
