In 1960, Bill Ballantine interviewed Jake Posey at his home in Huntington Park, California. That interview takes up an entire chapter in Bill’s 1964 book HORSES & THEIR BOSSES. (It is also fascinating reading!) |

If the age given in yesterday's B&B photo is correct, Mr. Posey would have been almost 100 years old when interviewed by Mr. Ballentine.
According to HORSES & THEIR BOSSES, Posey was born in 1863 and died in the fall of 1962. (The amount of detailed information he provided during the interview is amazing!)
In Jake Posey's book "Last of the Forty-Horse Drivers" written in 1959, there is a "current" picture stating that he is 95 years old.
He did live to a great age. The Victoria & Albert Museum, London has a signed book of his about his 40-horse days - he was well-over 96 when he autographed it for them - when I saw it I had to do my age sums a couple of times as I found it hard to believe at the time!!
hey isn't that wade
