I joined the Cristiani advance in Denver in 1959, having just closed with the Glen J Jarmes Famous Cole, and they were still laughing about an incident that had happened shortly before when they were billing Appleton in opposition to Adams Bros.
Of course Bill Griffith (Sr & Jr) figured they more-or-less owned Appleton and they didn't appreciate the any interlopers.
One of the Cristiani billers was in the process of snatching an Adams Bros window card out of a store window when this giant of an arm reached over him, grabbed the card and restored it to its proper place.
The youthful biller paled when he turned around and confronted Jimmy Ray. Jimmy then proceeded to deliver a few choice words on the subject of pulling Adams Bros paper and the poor biller slunk out of the store in fear.
He wasn't any good for the rest of the day.
