Cable television, and the Internet, have killed most opportunities for side show activity. You can see everything that has been in them and in greater breadth than was ever presented in shows. What you cannot experience, though, via a TV or Internet presentation, is the "live" element of human interaction, performer to audience. That may be the most effective aspect to exploit.
There has been engagement with the aspect of our culture that has taken tattooing, body piercing and associated activities [some truly crazy, like "scarification"] that were once exploited by showmen to new levels. This is the audience that has witnessed most of the activity by Jim Rose and Ken Harck's outfits. You generally don't see them at the circus.
Thank you the color bannerline photos. It was just as I remembered from the mid-60s. Watching Chuck Fuller (or anybody from that era) do an opening was a real treat!
