Looks Like MY favorite Act of The Show...Elephant Rides, Pony Rides, Moon Bounce, Face Paintin All Lined up...I wonder next year if I could trade out pushin a Wheel Barrow for the Bull's in exchange for the privilege to Lay down my 2-Headed Punk ...and maybe..just maybe, Tim Holst would notice...and then I could make my Debut (Finally) on RBBB..Well, at least during the Pre-Show....

The three rings sure seem to be cramed in close to each other... to make room for the carnival rides.

For so many years Ft. Worth Shrine in Will Rogers Coliseum during Thanksgiving was the place to be. Big shows in early 50s produced by banker Johnny Andrews and later Texas dates. I played it many times, twice with Cole elephants and with Gil Gray animals and Circus World Museum acts, also alot of girls, including Mary Ruth would get booked for web-prod. so one way or another we would be there. All the candy butchers, Big John, Frank Smith, Camel Rider, etc. would be there and then on the big weekend Dory Miller [yes in those days he was Dory, before the D.R.] and his buddy Donnie McIntosh would show up and Dory with fresh scratch would wipe out the blue room crap game and rowdy dow and jackpot during the time. It was certainly his favorite "Shrine Date" and am sure he has a big smile on his face knowing that his legacy is the current producer. Wonder if the still have the "Blue Room" Lots of memories. Regards, Johnny.

PS to my comments. I and Mary Ruth were married in the center ring in Ft. Worth during intermission on Thanksgiving day over 50 yrs. ago. Struppi Luvas [hanneford] always remembered beib at the wedding along with Jenny Wallenda and others. Shrine chaplain performed the ceremony. My best man was Gunther Wallenda and carriage with white horses hauled us around the hippoadrome track and clown threw popcorn. Dory Miller would frquently have his Kelly-Miller elephants booked and I recall Bill, Buckles and Freddie. I remember Freddie and I being web sitters. He with Ora and I with MR. They always had a big party at a building on the grounds and it always ended up in a big fistfight of noted circus people. There are lots of stories from the old Ft. Worth days and these are just some of them. Lots of memories of departed friends.
