Joe Bradbury liked to tell a story about carnival owner Rubin Gruberg. He was a small stature, excitable man. Apparently at one industry gathering he partially overheard a conversation, hearing only "like Grant took Vicksburg [or some southern city]." Gruberg immediately jumped in with something like "Who's this Grant? I have the contract for Vicksburg [?] right here," waving the fair contract in the air.
