Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus1913

These are said to be the elephants that survived the flood, some accounts say only three made it.
Phillips assistant John Worden is listed as Boss Elephant man in 1913 however he did return in 1914-15 as Menagerie Supt. The loss of so many of his long time companions might have played a part in it.

This might have also have influenced Ben Wallace's decision to sell the show on July 1, 1913 to a combine headed by Ed Ballard and included John Talbot, Charles Cory, Charles Hageman and J.M. Warren.
The sale did not include the Peru Quarters.

Wallace had been vacillating for several years over staying in the circus business. He took in several partners in 1909, only to boot them all out after he regained his "strength."
