Franck Buck - Norman Rockwell Painting.

From Henry Penndorf

Frank Buck was truly "larger than life".

Do you remember the CBS Television series, "Bring 'Em Back Alive"? It only lasted one season, from September 1982 to May 1983. A total of eighteen episodes. It was aired on Tuesday nights from 8:00 to 9:00 P.M. The show was set in Singapore, and starred Bruce Boxlietner as Frank Buck.

From YouTube, and for a smile, a! vintage commercial for the show. (The clip only lasts nine seconds)....

Growing up I had, and still have somewhere, the Classics Illustrated Comic Book "Bring 'Em Back Alive". Classics Illustrated published a few Frank Buck stories in addition to "Bring 'Em Back Alive" (#104), including "Fang and Claw" (#123), and "On Jungle Trails" (#140).

American Artist Norman Rockwell even painted a portrait of Frank Buck.

There is even a Frank Buck Zoo in Gainesville, Texas,..

I'm always amazed at people who confuse Frank Buck and Clyde Beatty.

Buck items are often listed on eBay by telling about how Buck was a wild animal trainer with the circus; likewise nearly everyone on hearing Beatty's name will say, "Oh, yeah; Bring 'em Back Alive!"

Even Wikipedia has Clyde Beatty described as a big game hunter who became a circus animal trainer. I've filed an edit to this. We'll see if the dummies post it.

In the TV series, the owner of the fabled Raffles nightclub was played by our late, beloved Sean McClory, who starred in the last Beatty film, RING OF FEAR (Warner Bros., 1954), as Dublin O'Malley, the crazed ringmaster who provided the impetus for the jinx-plot script.

I had planned to ref that Wikipedia boner, but when I went to check lo and behold they had finally deleted that game hunter bit from their Beatty entry.

Too late though; too many had already copied their original writeup and you know once something's seen and copied it can never be completely deleted.

Ole Whitey,
Keeping fact's straight is really tough with the ability to delete.
I have always assumed it was the pith helmet deal that confused people.
